Ian McPherson QPM
QPM, Assistant Commissioner Metropolitan Police and National Lead, ACPO C&YP Business Area.
Ian is a native Lancastrian and started his career with Lancashire Constabulary in 1979, following in his father’s footsteps.
Within Lancashire he served in a variety of roles. As a Superintendent he led a Corporate Change Programme before leading Operational policing for the Blackpool and Fylde division. He became Divisional Commander for the areas of Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale in 1999.
Following the successful completion of the Senior Command Course at Bramshill, Ian was appointed Assistant Chief Constable of Merseyside Police in April 2001. He had responsibility for Operations, Call Handling and Response and for developing the strategy and delivery of Neighbourhood Policing. After 4 years in Operations, Ian took command of Corporate Development which included developing the strategic direction for the force.
In September 2005 Ian was appointed Deputy Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police where he oversaw Corporate Development and Performance and played a pivotal role in the implementation of Neighbourhood Policing.
Ian was appointed Chief Constable of Norfolk Constabulary in December 2006 where he instigated an Organisational Development Programme of work to ensure that the Constabulary provided a customer focused service. In 2008 he was appointed the National Lead of the newly created ACPO Business Area for Children & Young People.
