Dr Suzanne Tyler, Associate Director for Maternity & Newborn Programme, NHS South Central
Suzanne had 12 years experience of working in health policy analysis and service development in national organisations; as Deputy Chief Executive of the Institute of Health Services Management and Head of Policy at the Royal College of Midwives; before becoming an independent consultant in 2000. Her PhD is an exploration of the influence that health service users have on maternity policy development in Europe.
Her work was primarily focussed within maternity services, including acting as consultant to a number of PCTs and acute trusts to conduct services reviews and develop commissioning plans; focussing on service improvement and specifically reducing infant mortality. In particular, she has been instrumental in developing an understanding of the impact of Payment By Results in maternity and has acted as advisor to professional bodies, SHAs and the DH. In 2009 Suzanne successfully completed a post-graduate diploma in art history.
In 2010 she rejoined the NHS as Associate Director of Maternity & Newborn for NHS South Central leading a clinical improvement programme to raise quality innovation, productivity and prevention across 10 maternity units serving women in 9 PCTs.
