Julie Stokes OBE
Julie is a chartered clinical psychologist with over 20 years experience working with children and families in palliative care, trauma and bereavement. Following the completion of a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship in 1992 she founded the award winning child bereavement charity – Winston’s Wish (www.winstonswish.org.uk). After 16 years as Chief Executive, Julie now works part time as the Clinical Director and as a free lance consultant. She is Vice Chair of the Childhood Bereavement Network (www.childhoodbereavementnetwork.org.uk) and a non exec director of DORE (www.dore.co.uk). In 2006 she received an OBE for her services to children and families.
Julie has lectured nationally and internationally and is the author of numerous articles, features and books – including ‘Then, Now & Always’- supporting children as they journey through grief - a guide for practitioners. In 2007, Julie was the resident psychologist in the C4 series ‘The Mummy Diaries’ which looked at innovative ways in which we can support families when a parent is seriously ill/dying. She was one of the original founders and Chair of the Bereavement Research Forum and was invited to join the International Working Group on Death, Dying and Bereavement in 2005. Julie is a trained Executive Coach, Supervisor and Consultant across both the private and public sectors.
