Cerie has been a teacher for 32 years. Her career began as a technology teacher in a secondary mainstream school where she soon questioned why she wanted to teach. Cerie discovered the reason when she found a job in special education.

Cerie began teaching at Slated Row MLD School for children aged 4- 19 years as PE co-ordinator. In 1999 she took over as Head of a very small Post 16 department. Over the next few years the department grew from 12 students to over 30.

In 2008 their student numbers peaked at 44 and they have continued to cater for in excess of 40 students every year since. Slated Row Sixth Form has received 3 consecutive outstanding OFSTED reports. They see their department as a stepping stone on the journey from childhood to adult life and aim to encourage every student to develop their life and work skills to the best of their ability.
