Andy Gilpin
After studying Social policy, Andy worked in the adult social care sector for 3 years, supporting adults with learning difficulties/disabilities. Andy then started working in the classrooms at Darlington College support students with a variety of additional needs. He has worked at Darlington College for approximately 12 years and as Additional Learning Support (ALS) Manager for approximately 6 years.
One of his keys aims throughout his time as ALS Manager has been and continues to be, improving the transition process from school to college for young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Andy feels that person centred approaches, close partnership with other agencies and sound information sharing are vital in achieving this.
The College currently has a partnership with the Clervaux Trust, a partnership that aims to support holistic education for vulnerable young people and create opportunities for their futures.
