Gill Worgan joined the West Herts College management team in 2004, working across quality, curriculum and student support before her appointment as Principal and Chief Executive in January 2011.

In spring 2010 West Herts College became the first college to gain Ofsted outstanding status under the new inspection protocols.

Gill led the college throughout the preparation and management of this inspection. It was a triumph made all the more remarkable given Ofsted’s reporting of ‘no obvious strengths’ when inspectors visited in 2003. This period of transformation is reflected in Gill’s experience of Ofsted – where the focus and interest of inspectors varies with a college’s current position and immediate aspirations.

As Gill will outline: engaging with learners, staff (and all other) stakeholders is an integral part of a successful Ofsted – before, during and after inspection.
