The Historic Environment Branch at Essex County Council aims to facilitate sustainable development, through understanding conserving and managing the county’s rich heritage.
The core function of the branch is to provide advice and guidance on planning and land management issues; this advice is founded on the Historic Environment Record (HER), a database which is actively maintained and enhanced and currently contains over 30,000 records of archaeological sites and historic buildings
and structures in the county.
Nigel has worked for Essex County Council for more than 30 years.
He has a specialist knowledge of the Neolithic and Bronze Age and is a nationally renowned expert in the ceramics of those
periods.
