Alun Hughes' remit extends from the provision of university expertise through training, consultancy and knowledge exchange programmes, to international partnership development and immigration and English language support for international students.

He has worked at the University of Glamorgan for 16 years. The Middle East has been a key region of interest for the last decade.

He is currently leading on two projects for the whole higher education sector in Wales. One of these projects is the Wales-China Higher Education Training Consortium.

Alun studied physics at the University of Oxford. He returned to his homeland of Wales to pursue a PhD in surface physics at Cardiff University prior to working with GEC-Marconi and the Methodist Church.
