John Hewitson is a Senior Operational Manager in HM Prison Service. His current role is Governor of HMP/YOI Styal a female prison located close to Manchester. Prior to this role he was the Governor of HMP Kirkham. He moved to the North West in 2007 following a period as Deputy Governor at HMP Brixton.

Over the last 24 years he has had a number of other positions in London prisons and the High Security estate. For the last two years he has led a regional approach to coordinating all Heads of Learning and Skills in the NW. This has progressed to leading the implementation of OLASS 4 across the region. John has a real passion in developing the HMPS approach to education and using this to assist all offenders towards leading better and more fulfilling lives.
