Helen's portfolio encompasses both Children and Adult Services.

She joined South Tyneside Council in February 2008 initially as Director, Children's Services with her portfolio broadened more widely in June 2010.

South Tyneside Council was rated as 2nd best in the country in terms of the number of children adopted within 12 months (at 96%), in the Department for Education’s league table published in 2011.
