Steve Hook
Steve Hook has been successfully helping individual college principals around the country to significantly increase their student numbers. This is achieved through a combination of strategy, implementation, interim management, advertising, online approaches, community relationship building, press relations training, the creation of products including cinema commercials and website content, and advice on customer communications.
Nationally, he was involved with a BIS-commissioned review of further education funding. Other projects have included work for various Government-funded organisations and the provision of press relations masterclasses around the country.
His voluntary work has included helping to raise the esteem of vocational training in association with the University of Birmingham and surrounding colleges.
He is a member of the Further Education Reputation Strategy Group and the Royal Society of Arts.
He was previously in newspaper journalism for 20 years, most recently as editor of FE Focus in the Times Educational Supplement. He had worked for a variety of local and national newspapers but it was during his time at the Times Ed that he decided to become “poacher turned gamekeeper” and devote his energies to working in the sector. Believing that journalism and marketing “don’t mix” – he now focuses entirely on his clients.
