Dr Ingrid van Beek

Dr Ingrid van Beek
Ingrid is a public health and addiction medicine physician who has worked at the sharp end of harm reduction for the past 25 years.

Ingrid has been the Director of the Kirketon Road Centre (KRC) in Sydney’s Kings Cross since 1989. KRC is a public health facility targeting high risk young people, sex workers and people who inject drugs. Ingrid was also the founding Medical Director of Australia’s first and only Supervised Injecting Facility, which attracted public controversy, its opponents ranging from the local Chamber of Commerce to the Australian Prime Minister, the International Narcotics Control Board to the Vatican!

Ingrid is also a Conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of NSW and has published widely on harm reduction for which she gained a Doctorate in Medicine in 2010. In the same year she was awarded an Order of Australia in recognition of her work to improve the health of vulnerable populations.
