Umran S. İnan was educated at the Middle East Technical University and Stanford University, where he gained his PhD. He is a fellow of many learned societies, including the American Geophysical Union and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and is a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences.
