The next vice-chancellor of ANU, who takes up his post in January 2016, won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics after the High-Z Supernova Search Team made the startling discovery, under his leadership, that the expansion rate of the Universe is accelerating. Among other honours, he is a fellow of the Royal Society.
